Our story

Hello! Welcome to our little label, we're delighted you dropped by.

Kan & Khan is the passion project of best friends Azal Khan and Deborah Cheah (soon to be Mrs Kan!) who bonded at their prim and proper private girls school over how they could best accessorise their uniforms to make them more individual (brooches, buttons and ribbons were most favoured). Fast forward over 10 years, five university degrees between them later, Azal and Deb went back to their love of designing beautiful things for women like them - mindful and modern.

Being the daughter of an interior designer, Deb learned to sew early on and developed an appreciation for art, textiles and design. Styling and creating flattering things for women is second nature to Deb and when she is not being a yogi she can be found travelling around the country visiting the most interesting art exhibitions.

Azal's love for art, design but especially jewellery comes from her Pakistani and Indian heritage which she is deeply connected to. Her style can be best described as East meets West and this is reflected in the Kan & Khan design ethos. A writer and journalist by trade, she is happiest when daydreaming about her next cup of tea or practicing Indian classical dancing.

Sustainability, ethics and empowerment is at the heart of Kan & Khan. Azal and Deb firmly believe business is about doing the right thing by humans and the earth. All products are designed by Azal and Deb in Sydney, Australia, and created with love by artisans working under fair trade organisations or family-run small businesses. Working with artisans allows them to continue their trade and encourages their self-sustainability and socio-economic development. Kan & Khan is against fast fashion, which means all products are created with high-quality materials to ensure they last a lifetime.
